Zero GPT is one of the most popular AI detectors right now. A quick check on Ahrefs’ free web traffic checker shows it attracts over 3.7 million users monthly, which is far more traffic than any other AI detection tool.
The best part? It’s completely free!
That’s why I decided to review this tool and share my thoughts on how well it performs.
With over five years of experience as a writer and editor for various organizations, I have a solid understanding of AI and AI detection tools.
I’ve tested several of these tools using different methods to gauge their accuracy. Let’s dive in, shall we?

Test 1 – Testing a Blog Generated in One Prompt
To start, I created a one-prompt blog titled “The Best AI Content Detectors” and ran it through Zero GPT to see if it could identify the AI-generated parts. Despite being one-prompt content, it looked pretty informative.
The result? Zero GPT struggled, detecting only 16% of the content as AI-generated and the rest as human-written. Take a look at the image below to see the results:
Test 2 – Testing Basic Question/Answers
Next, I tested whether Zero GPT could detect AI-generated responses in a simple Q&A format. I asked ChatGPT, “What is an AI detection tool?” copied the answer, and ran it through Zero GPT.
This time, it identified 46% of the content as AI-generated and 54% as human-written. While this is better than the first test, it’s still far from accurate, as the content was entirely AI-generated.
Test 3 – Testing Paraphrased Content
Finally, I tested AI-generated content that had been paraphrased using a tool like Quillbot. Many writers use premium paraphrasing tools to disguise AI-generated content as human-written.
To test this, I took the previous Q&A answer generated by ChatGPT, paraphrased it using Quillbot, and then ran the result through Zero GPT.
Surprisingly, Zero GPT passed the paraphrased content off as 100% human-written.
Zero GPT Review Results
I ran three tests in total. First, I generated a one-prompt blog, and Zero GPT detected only 16% of it as AI-generated.
Next, I asked ChatGPT a question and used its answer to check for AI, which Zero GPT identified as 46% AI-generated.
Finally, I paraphrased AI-generated content using Quillbot, and Zero GPT completely failed to detect it, passing it off as entirely human-written.
Type of Content Generated Using Chat GPT | Results |
1. One Prompt Blog | Fail (16% of the content deteceted to be AI) |
2. Question Answer | Needs Improvement ( 46% of the content detected to be AI generated) |
3. Paraphrased Content | Fail ( found the content to be 100% human-generated) |
Should I Use Zero GPT for Checking AI?
Based on these tests, the answer is a resounding NO! While I don’t think you always need a tool to identify AI content, especially if you can differentiate between high-quality and poorly written text, Zero GPT, at least the free version, is not reliable.
If you rely heavily on tools to detect AI in content, I’d recommend skipping Zero GPT unless its paid version offers better accuracy. For now, my experience with the free version has been underwhelming.
